Certain areas of San Antonio, especially in the greater northwest, can be described as sprawling. In Sonterra and Stone Oak, there are lovely gated communities featuring newer construction. There are landscaped medians separating smoothly paved roads leading to excellent restaurants and shopping. However, if you prefer older homes and that small-town feel, a community like Alamo Heights is worth exploring.

Alamo Heights - The ArgyleAlamo Heights is located 5 miles north of downtown and 5 miles south of Loop 410. The main artery in Alamo Heights is Broadway, home to many local shops, great restaurants, and of course, the Original Central Market -- my personal favorite neighborhood amenity.

Homes in Alamo Heights range from smaller cottage-style homes to magnificent estate-like properties. Many of the streets and homes date back nearly one hundred years and reflect the architectural sensibilities of the developers. You can also find wonderful new construction designed by some of San Antonio's best architects in this older area of San Antonio.

Alamo Heights Homes for Sale 201 ArcadiaIn April, I held an open house in Alamo Heights at 201 Arcadia. This property is the perfect example of the small town/urban lifestyle. Situated between North New Braunfels and Broadway in Alamo Heights, it is a perfect place to appreciate the small town atmosphere of Alamo Heights. The local elementary school, the local coffee shop (literally Local Coffee in this case), awesome baked goods at Broadway Daily Bread and excellent pizza at Sorrento are all walking distance from this home. You could even walk to Sunday brunch at neighborhood favorite, Cappy’s Restaurant or go out for great Mexican food at Paloma Blanca.

Alamo Heights Homes for Sale 729 PattersonThere are numerous Alamo Heights streets that accommodate small town/urban location. 729 Patterson is a home for sale that is the perfect confluence of newer construction located in an established neighborhood. Condominiums such as 200 Patterson and The Broadway (adjacent to Alamo Heights at the corner of Hildebrand and Broadway) offer luxury high-rise living close to everything that makes Alamo Heights distinctive and desirable.

Not every home in Alamo Heights can offer the convenience of streets like Arcadia and Patterson Avenues. However, any home in Alamo Heights is close to many neighborhood favorites, even if it is a short drive.
